Product Details

People have been asking us for a giclée version of this stunning painting that's in the collection of Indianapolis' Eiteljorg Museum, and it's here. This 1975 work is officially set in Cuernavaca, Mexico, but could potentially have a few borrowed New Mexico elements as well. Its complex composition features a sparkling play of sunlight over the water as women do their day's work, children play on the bank, and a man brazenly walks his burro through the scene. Hulings had famously been advised to stop painting Mexican laundry if he wanted to be succesful: it was advice he never took. Laundry recurrs as a motif throughout his more than 60-year career, providing geometric and color acents, as well as serving as a visual record of the hard work of daily life.
